Alkaline Fens (HT 7230)

Vegetation of small sedges along calcareous waters poor with nutrients, soligenous fens and wetlands in lowlands. Water table is slightly above or below surface.

Characteristic plant species: Schoenus nigricans, Schoenus ferrugineus, Eriophorum latifolium, Eriophorum angustifolium, Carex hostiana, Carex davalliana, Carex panicea, Molinia caerulea, Menyanthes trifoliata, Carex rostrata, Eleocharis quinqueflora.

The major threats to this habitat type on Ljubljana Marsh are: excavation of drainage ditches, use of heavy machinery or pasture of heavy animals, overgrowing and fertilization.
