Despite the rain, we found Dežman’s pile dwellings
On Saturday, 3rd October 2015, despite the rain, we set off in high spirits along the path walked by Karel Dežman 140 years previously, when he discovered the first pile dwellings on the Ljubljana Marsh. With the help of our guides, we learned how this discovery came about, what happened there after the discovery, and what the discovery meant for that period and the country at that time. The emphasis of the ‘People for the Marsh’ project presentation was centred on nature and the necessity to preserve species and habitat types, as we strive to protect the multifaceted, millennia-old heritage of the pile dwellers.
